筍として地上へ出てきて１か月

上の方はまだ竹皮にすっぽりと覆われて　伸び続けているけれど

足元では新しい根が　しっかりと大地へ根をおろしています

驚異的なスピードで　外見上の生長を仕上げるために

去年生えた２年生の竹と　今年の新生竹とを見分けるとき

根っこの色を見て判断するのも　一つの方法です

筍の時期の根は　なんと鮮やかな桃色で

新生竹の根は白っぽい乳白色　そして２年生になると茶色っぽい色へと変化します

厳しい大自然の中で　１本の竹としてどっしりと根を下ろすまでに

Ｒさんは３年程かかると思って観ています

春の嵐　夏の猛暑　台風　雪　ケムシ・・・

たくましく育ってほしい　すべての新生竹に　そう願う　

Roots in the soil

A month has passed after the bamboo shoot has sprouted.
They are still growing upward. The new root of the bamboo has already been established in the soil.
They grow up in an unbelievable speed. One way to distinguish a 2 year old bamboo from the 1 year old ones, is by checking the color of the roots.
A bamboo shoot has a bright pink roots, and a one year old bamboo has a milky roots while a two year one turns gradually into brown.
I think it takes three years for their roots to be solid enough and become tough part of the Mother Nature.
I hope that all new bamboos will grow up to be vigorous and tough.
