高野竹工が取り組む金閣寺古材プロジェクトのお知らせです。
未来に続く循環を
金閣寺の建造物には樹齢数百年の木々が、屋根から床や天井、柱や戸板として使われています。日々の出来事を見届ける木材には、年月とともに、傷や割れ、すり減り、虫食いとなってその歴史が刻まれていきます。
数百年の時を経、大きな役目を終えた古材が熟練した職人と出会うとき、木の歴史、お寺の歴史、そして職人の叡智が加わり、唯一無二の作品が生まれます。作品がお客様の手に渡ることで文化と歴史が共有され、収益は文化財の保全や修繕に活かされます。新たな命を与えられた古材が、また未来へと続く循環を生むのです。
瓦礫に命を与える
高野竹工は長年、茶道具の製作に携わり、創業者 高野宗陵の代から諸刹との関わりを大切に築いてきたことから、国宝ならびに国宝級の建造物の古材をお預かりするご縁に恵まれました。竹一筋であった宗陵でしたが、長年の経年により変化した古材特有の存在感に心を奪われ、また相国寺派管長有馬賴底老師との出会いの折に頂いた「瓦礫に命を与える、それが職人の仕事」という言葉に打たれて、大いに創作意欲を刺激されたようです。
歴史的な建造物としての大きな役目を終えた材が再び生活の道具として蘇り、作り手から次世代の作り手へ、また手にしてくださるお客様へと手渡されてゆくこと、その悠久の時の流れ、連綿と続く自然の生命の神秘に満ちた美しさを、私たちは古材を通してお伝えしていきたいと考えております。

A cycle that will continue into the future
Hundreds of years-old trees are used in the building of Kinkaku-ji, from the roof to the floor and ceiling, and as pillars and door panels. Over the years, the wood, which witnesses the daily events of the temple, has been engraved with Kinkaku-ji’s history in the form of scratches, cracks, wear and tear, and insect holes.
When old wood that has served its purpose for hundreds of years meets experienced craftsmen, the history of the wood, the history of the temple, and the wisdom of the craftsmen are added to create unique works of art. When the works are passed on to customers, culture and history are shared, and the profits from the sales of these works are used to preserve and repair cultural assets. The old wood given new life creates a cycle that will continue into the future.
Giving life to the rubble
Takano Chikko has been involved in the production of tea utensils for many years. We have carefully developed a close relationship with various temples since the time of the founder, Sōryo Takano, and have had the privilege of keeping old materials from the buildings designated as national treasures or equivalent.
Sōryo dedicated his life to bamboo works and was fascinated by the presence of unique materials, which retain signs of the old days even as the ages pass by. He was also influenced by the words of Arima Raitei, the head priest of the Shōkoku-ji temple: “giving life to the rubble, that’s the work of craftsmen,” that highly stimulated his creativity.
We would like to mention how old materials having served their function in traditional buildings can be rejuvenated as materials for daily use. These materials can be passed down from craftsman to craftsman through generation to generation of customers that gives us a sense of an unending flow of time as well as the mystic beauty of the eternal life of nature.

未来持续的循环
在金阁寺的建筑物中，从屋顶到地板、天花板、柱子和门板，都使用了树龄数百年的树木。木材日常支撑着金阁寺，见证着这里的每一天，伴随着金阁寺历史的逐年流逝，逐渐损伤、破裂、磨损、被虫蛀。
经历数百年时间并完成巨大使命的古材，在与工匠相遇之时，融合了树木的历史、寺庙的历史以及工匠的智慧，诞生出独一无二的作品。文化和历史通过作品与顾客共享，收益则回馈给文化财产的保护和修缮。古材孕育了可以向未来持续的循环。
为瓦砾赋予生命
高野竹工长年从事茶具的制作，从创业者高野宗陵那一代起就很注重与各个寺庙建立关系，所以有幸保存了国宝及国宝级建筑物的古材。宗陵虽一心投身于竹艺，但却被历经沧桑的古材特有的魅力所吸引，另外，在与相国寺派管长有马赖底长老相遇时，长老赠言“为瓦砾赋予生命，这就是工匠的工作”，这句话打动了他，大大激发了他的创作热情。
作为历史性建筑物完成巨大使命的木材再次作为生活用具而复苏，从制作者传给下一代的制作者，再传给购买的顾客，我们希望通过古材来传递那悠久的时光流逝，和自然生命不断延续的神秘之美。
