雪中松柏 Pine and Daimyo Oak in the Snow

At the beginning of the month I paid homage at the "Matsuo-Taisha Shrine" which enshrines the god of mountains in Shinto.
There I stopped and gazed intently at the snow-capped pine needles. They were really beautiful.
I saw a monthly written word in the precincts "雪中松柏"(settyu-no-shohaku) .
This expression refers to the leaves of the pine and daimyo oak that never change color despite the severe coldness of winter.
It is a symbol of those who hold steadfast to their wishes and constancy despite of the change in current of the times.
4th of February is the day called "Risshun" in Japan.
It is the first day of spring by the lunar calendar.
When I read the word, I made renew my mind.
